TRC SIGN CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF ELEVEN NEW LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE

Tanzania Railways Corporation Director General Mr. Masanja Kadogosa signs contract with the Progress Rail Locomotives(PRL) for the purchase of eleven Locomotive Engines with number 9014, 9015, 9016, 9017, 9018, 9019, 9020, 9021, 9022, 9023 and 9024 that were brought in July 2017 by PRL in the Dar es Salaam Port.

TRC reaches agreement of purchasing 11 locomotive engines after a long process of inspection to verify if the locomotive engines are new or not, due to misunderstanding of ownership of the Locomotive which arose for several months.

On September 27 2017 Minister for Works Transport and Communication Prof. Makame Mbarawa appoints the committee to inspect the engines whether they are new or not for the sake of purchasing them. The committee found that the locomotive engines were new after inspection.

On the other step on October 16 2017 Minister Mbarawa for the second time appoints a comitee of Engineers, Legal officers and Economists to bargain the price for each Locomotive.

In 2015 Government purchased 13 locomotive engines with number 9001, 9002, 9003, 9004, 9005, 9006, 9007, 9008, 9009, 9010, 9011, 9012 and 9013 for 3.2 Million US Dollar each engine. The appointed Committee discused on the process of purchasing the locomotives, and reached agreement of purchasing for US Dollar 2,400,000 each engine with different of 800,000 US Dollar, there for 11 locomotive engines the government saved 8,800,000 US Dollar.
Testing will be done in three phases, phase one will involve visual inspection, phase two will involve loading box, and phase three is pulling the load where the engines will carry a 700 tones cargo from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro and 1200 tones from Morogoro to Kigoma and Mwanza. Purchasing these new locomotives will increase efficacy in our transport services.
